This English show was produced by the BBC between 1990 and 1994, based on detective novels by Ngaio Marsh (1895-1982) - a contemporary of Agatha Christie's. It is a series of dramas about Chief Inspector Roderick Alleyn, an Old Etonian at Scotland Yard from the 1930s onwards.
In the pilot (aired at Christmas, 1990) Simon Williams played Alleyn, but he wasn't available when the series came along in 1993, so Patrick Malahide took over the role.
Alleyn Mysteries was produced at a time when period detective dramas were all the rage on British television. After the first series, he BBC ordered three more episodes, which were broadcast as specials during 1994
